Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team, this 1967 Kennedy Half Dollar carries the WMDO-001 designation — a doubled (tripled) working hub obverse affecting all coins produced from working dies derived from this hub. Struck in 40% silver clad composition used for Kennedy Half Dollars from 1965 through 1970, this variety produces very close tripling on the date, IN GOD WE TRUST, ERTY of LIBERTY, and the hair detail under the R. Unlike single-die doubled dies, a working hub variety transfers its doubling to every working die made from that hub, meaning multiple die pairs can exhibit the same tripling. Die markers will vary with different working dies since each receives its own unique surface characteristics during preparation and use. Previously listed varieties determined to be from this working hub include WDDO-014, consolidating what were once considered separate doubled dies under a single hub origin. Working hub varieties represent an earlier stage in the die-making chain than working die varieties, and their identification requires comparing multiple die pairs to recognize the shared doubling pattern.
