Description

Cataloged as UVC-399 and DMR-006 in the VarietyVista system, the 1963 Proof Roosevelt Dime DDO-004 exhibits medium spread on the Y of LIBERTY, the eyelid, hair, and hair lines, with light spread on the designer's initials and date. Struck as a proof in 90% silver, this variety's die stage progression documents three stages. Stage A is at early die state with a die gouge at the hairline behind the eye and the reverse at EDS. Stage B advances both obverse and reverse to mid-die-state. Stage C is an unconfirmed late die state. The spread on the Y of LIBERTY and the eyelid are the most accessible diagnostics, as these design elements provide fine detail against which even moderate displacement becomes visible. The Stage A hairline gouge behind the eye serves as an early die state marker, positioned conveniently near the eyelid doubling.
