Description

Clockwise rotation from a pivot at approximately 5:00 characterizes this Wexler-attributed 1963 Proof Roosevelt Dime WDDO-003, affecting the RTY of LIBERTY and the hair detail at the top of Roosevelt's head on John R. Sinnock's obverse portrait. The 5:00 pivot means elements opposite this axis — particularly the upper obverse — receive the greatest rotational displacement, explaining why the top-of-head hair and terminal letters of LIBERTY show the spread while other elements may appear normal. No significant die markers have been documented beyond the doubling itself. This is one of three distinct 1963 proof Roosevelt Dime varieties in this catalog segment — WDDO-003 is the obverse doubled die, while WDDR-009 and WDDR-017 are reverse doubled dies from different working dies. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 90% silver at 2.5 grams as part of the annual proof set, this coin predates the 1965 transition to copper-nickel clad.
