A noteworthy dual-variety coin, WDDO-012 on the 1963 Philadelphia Jefferson Nickel carries both obverse and reverse hub doubling from separate events — the obverse is cataloged as WDDO-012 while the same working die also bears reverse doubling listed as 1963 5-cent WDDR-072. This dual designation means a single die pair produced coins exhibiting two varieties simultaneously, a relatively uncommon occurrence giving collectors two attribution checkpoints on every specimen. The obverse doubling manifests as Class II distorted hub doubling on the left side of the numeral 6 in the date — a remarkably precise diagnostic isolating visible displacement to one side of a single digit. This specificity indicates the hub displacement zone was narrow enough that only the left contour of the 6 crossed the detection threshold while adjacent elements remained unaffected. No significant obverse die markers have been noted. The 1963 Jefferson Nickel was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in copper-nickel composition (75% copper, 25% nickel).
