Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista, this 1963-D Franklin Half Dollar DDO-002 shows light spread on IN GOD WE TRUST and LIBER of LIBERTY. The die progression under UVC-235 and DMR-003 documents an unusual staging pattern: Stage A is unconfirmed at EDS, Stage B is also unconfirmed at EDS — two consecutive early die state stages, suggesting the cataloger identified distinct minor die surface changes within the early period of die service before wear advanced meaningfully. Stage C confirms both obverse and reverse at mid-die state (MDS). The 1963-D was the final year of the Franklin Half Dollar before the Kennedy Half Dollar replaced it in 1964 following President Kennedy's assassination. Terminal-year varieties from discontinued series carry added collector interest as they represent the last production of their design type from that mint.
