Description

Proof-only and bearing a light spread across three obverse diagnostic areas, the 1962 Roosevelt Dime DDO-003 shows doubling on the date, on John Sinnock's JS designer initials positioned side by side, and on the word TRUST. Light classification means the secondary image sits close to the primary and requires attentive magnification to resolve, though the proof finish — with its mirror fields and frosted devices — provides favorable contrast for detection. Roosevelt Dime proofs of this era were struck at Philadelphia for inclusion in annual proof sets, using specially polished dies and planchets in 90% silver, the last years before clad composition arrived in 1965. Three die stages track the die's service life: Stage A documents both obverse and reverse in Early Die State, while Stage B at Mid Die State and Stage C at Late Die State remain unconfirmed, indicating fewer specimens have been examined at those later stages. The side-by-side designer initials — JS for John R. Sinnock, who created the Roosevelt Dime design introduced in 1946 — provide a compact area where even subtle displacement shows as thickened or shadowed letter strokes.
