1962-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-008

Description

With only two years remaining before the end of silver coinage, the 1962-D Roosevelt Dime carrying WRPM-008 documents a repunched mint mark on one of the final 90% silver issues from Denver. The Wexler Team attributed this variety under Wexler Variety ID 1962-D 10¢ WRPM-008, recording a working die on which the D mint mark was struck at least twice, producing overlapping impressions that serve as a diagnostic fingerprint for this specific die. Eight cataloged RPMs for the 1962-D Roosevelt Dime represents moderate density, consistent with Denver's dime production volume during the early 1960s. Each coin in this issue was struck on a planchet containing approximately 0.07234 troy ounces of silver — the same composition used since the denomination's inception in 1946 and unchanged until the Coinage Act of 1965 eliminated silver from dimes and quarters. The hand-punching process for mint marks continued at all branch mints through 1988, and identifying WRPM-008 requires magnification to detect the secondary D impression against the final placement. No additional cross-references beyond the Wexler catalog are currently published for this variety.
