Description

D/D Northeast repunching identifies WRPM-002 on the 1962 Denver Roosevelt Silver Dime, where the second mintmark application was displaced to the northeast of the first, creating partial overlap visible under magnification. Robert J. Lawson submitted this discovery, which carries dual cross-references: CONECA RPM #1 and Wexler Variety ID 1962-D 10¢ WRPM-002. Obverse die markers include a NE/SW die scratch in the field southeast of the right lower leg of the N in IN. Reverse markers are concentrated around the S in PLURIBUS: a north-by-east die scratch runs from the lower tail of the S to its center curve, and a SSE die scratch extends from the right lower side of the same S — two scratches on a single letter that create a reliable fingerprint for this specific die. Denver struck 334,948,380 Roosevelt Dimes in 1962, the penultimate year of silver dime production. The CONECA designation as RPM #1 indicates this was the first repunched mintmark recognized by CONECA for the 1962-D dime, establishing it as the primary reference variety in that system. Attributed by the Wexler Team, WRPM-002 dates from the hand-punched mintmark era when each Denver working die received its D individually, and the slight positional variations between successive punches created the repunching evidence that variety researchers systematically catalog.
