1962-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-006

Description

Discovered by Jeff Longueuay, this 1962-D Roosevelt Dime features a D/D tilted (rotated) repunched mintmark, cataloged as WRPM-006 (Wexler Variety ID: 1962-D 10¢ WRPM-006). The original D punch was applied at a rotated angle before the corrected impression was overlaid, leaving the misaligned undertype visible at the mintmark's edges. Roosevelt dimes of this period were among the last 90% silver dimes struck before the 1965 clad transition. Two obverse marker clusters are present. At the bridge of the nose, northeast-to-southwest and northwest-to-southeast die scratches cross at an intersection. Additionally, a north-northwest-to-south-southeast scratch runs from the lower lip to the nose, and a separate scratch extends north from the upper center of the 9 in the date. Reverse die markers include a die gouge right of center from the E in ONE and a die scratch running east-northeast from the lower right of that E to the D in DIME. The two-sided marker set provides multiple confirmation points for attribution when examining candidate examples.
