1962-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-005

Description

Among the repunched mintmark varieties documented for the 1962-D Roosevelt dime, RPM-005 holds a special position because of its Cherrypickers listing as FS-501 — a Cherrypickers' Guide designation signaling collector recognition beyond the specialist RPM literature. The mintmark geometry is the defining feature: this is a D/Horizontal D, meaning the mintmark was first punched into the die in a roughly horizontal orientation before being re-entered in the standard vertical position. The rotated shadow mark differs fundamentally from positional (north/south/east/west) repunchings that characterize most of the RPM catalogue. VarietyVista codes UVC-393 and DMR-007 document the die. Stage A (EDS) records both reverse and obverse in early die state; Stage B (MDS) and Stage C (LDS) are unconfirmed. Roosevelt dimes were struck in 90% silver through 1964, making the 1962-D one of the final silver issues available to cherrypickers.
