1960 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-010
Error
Description
Struck as a proof in the 90% silver composition standard for pre-1965 dimes, the 1960 Philadelphia Mint Roosevelt Dime DDO-010 exhibits tripling on the G of GOD as its primary diagnostic feature. The tripled impression, where three overlapping hub impressions create two displaced secondary images flanking the primary letter, produces a more complex visual pattern than standard doubling. Cataloged as UVC-343 and DMR-012, die stage progression documents three stages: Stage A is an unconfirmed early die state. Stage B is an unconfirmed mid-die-state. Stage C is an unconfirmed late die state. The proof striking process, using polished dies and specially prepared planchets with multiple impressions per coin, tends to render doubled die features with particular clarity. The tripling on G of GOD, concentrated on a single letter, provides a focused pickup zone that collectors can locate efficiently on this silver proof Roosevelt Dime variety.
