Description

Recognized by both CONECA (5-O-I) and the Cherrypickers guide (FS-10-1960-102), WDDO-003 on the 1960 Proof Roosevelt Dime ranks among the more extensively cross-referenced doubled die obverses of its era. Class I (Rotated Hub) clockwise spread appears on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, the date, and the designer's initials — a wide distribution of affected elements consistent with rotational displacement, where the hub was slightly rotated between successive impressions on the working die. Obverse die markers include a light northeast-to-southwest die scratch on the frontal hair, while the reverse carries a very small die gouge below the T of UNITED. The 1960 Proof Roosevelt Dime was struck at Philadelphia in 90% silver during the era when that facility served as the exclusive proof production mint. Proof mirrored fields make the clockwise spread especially visible under oblique lighting, as each displaced letter edge catches light at an angle distinct from the primary impression.
