1960 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-004
Error
Description
Medium spread on the date, designer's initials side by side, and IN GOD WE TRUST establishes DDO-004 of the 1960 Proof Roosevelt Dime as a significant proof doubled die. Cross-referenced as FS-103 in the Cherry Picker's Guide, confirming its recognized importance. Attributed by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-337 and DMR-006, three progressive stages are documented: Stage A shows both obverse and reverse in early die state, Stage B in mid-die state remains unconfirmed, and Stage C in late die state likewise awaits confirmation. The medium-strength spread on a proof issue is particularly appealing because mirror-like fields provide maximum contrast for observing displaced design elements. The 1960 proof Roosevelt Dime was struck at Philadelphia in 90% silver and 10% copper for annual proof sets during a period of strong collector demand. Sinnock's Roosevelt Dime design had been in production since 1946, and the 1960 proof sits in the final years of silver composition before the 1965 transition to copper-nickel clad. The FS-103 recognition makes DDO-004 a cherry-picking target for collectors examining 1960 proof sets.
