Description

The Proof Small Date counterpart to the Proof Large Date listing, WDDR-016 on the 1960 Lincoln Memorial Cent Proof Small Date carries the same extremely close spread towards the center on the designer's initials that defines this variety under the Large Date hub. The Small Date proof hub was introduced at Philadelphia partway through the 1960 proof production run, and this listing documents the doubled die reverse as it appears under that later hub type. The centerward displacement on the FG initials is minimal — the most restrained doubling scope documented on any WDDR variety in this batch — and confirmation requires high magnification and ideally side-by-side comparison with a normal proof specimen. No significant obverse die markers have been noted. On the reverse, die scratches running mostly north to south on the left Memorial base serve as the only recorded diagnostic for confirming the specific die, and collectors should locate these scratches before attempting to verify the extremely close doubling on the initials. Because proof dies were retired after approximately 3,000 impressions, the total population carrying this doubling is tightly constrained. Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1960 1¢ Pr WDDR-016 with no other known cross-references, the Small Date proof hub is verified by the characteristically uniform date numeral proportions.
