Description

Documented by VarietyVista with the comment D/D East and cross-referenced as FS-501 in the Cherrypickers’ Guide, the 1960-D Roosevelt Silver Dime RPM-003 is cataloged as UVC-359 with die marker record DMR-004. The D/D East designation indicates the initial D mintmark was placed too far west, with the corrective second punch shifting the final D eastward, leaving the first impression visible to the west (left) of the primary letter. The Cherrypickers FS-501 cross-reference confirms this as a recognized variety in the standard attribution literature, significant enough to warrant inclusion in the guide used by collectors systematically searching for varieties. Die stage progression documents three states: Stage A at early die state (unconfirmed), Stage B with both reverse and obverse at mid-die-state (MDS), and Stage C with both in late die state (LDS), with the latter two states confirmed. The 1960-D Roosevelt Dime was struck at the Denver Mint in 90% silver composition (90% silver, 10% copper) weighing 2.50 grams with a 17.9 mm diameter. Designed by John R. Sinnock, the Roosevelt Dime features the president’s portrait on the obverse and a torch flanked by olive and oak branches on the reverse. The 1960-D is part of the final era of silver dime production before the Coinage Act of 1965 ended silver composition for circulating dimes.
