Description

On this 1955-D Roosevelt dime, the Denver D mintmark was impressed in a tilted or rotated orientation before its final placement, producing WRPM-005 (Wexler Variety ID: 1955-D 10¢ WRPM-005, CONECA RPM #1). Obverse die markers include numerous light northeast-to-southwest die scratches between the profile and LIBERTY, plus two north-to-south scratches centered between the T and Y of LIBERTY. On the reverse, east-to-west die scratches run through US of PLURIBUS and UNUM, northeast-to-southwest scratches cut through the first S in STATES, and a die scratch extends south from the torch base toward the D of DIME. Additional markers include a scratch south-southeast from the R in AMERICA to the oak leaf and a north-to-south scratch between E and R of AMERICA. Submitted by Jeff Longeuay. The tilted repunching and extensive die scratch network make attribution straightforward under magnification once the diagnostics are learned.
