Description

The 1955-D Roosevelt Dime RPM-001 is attributed by VarietyVista with die codes UVC-268 and DMR-002. Struck at Denver in 90% silver, the 1955-D Roosevelt Dime is a conditional key within the silver dime series, making any attributed variety on this date of additional numismatic interest. The repunch is a D/D South shift, with the first mintmark punch applied north of the final placement, leaving a displaced D impression visible above the primary mintmark. Three die stages are recorded: Stage A shows both obverse and reverse in early die state simultaneously. Stage B at mid-die state exhibits a die scratch running from the left torch stem to the bottom of the torch on the reverse — a stable, visually accessible marker — while the obverse is also MDS. Stage C is a late die state (unconfirmed). The Stage B reverse die scratch from stem to torch base is the most reliable secondary confirmation feature. Under a loupe the southward repunch is most visible at the upper loop of the mintmark, where the earlier northward impression creates a slight widening or shadow. This variety rewards collectors examining 1955-D dimes in circulated to AU grades.
