Description

Cross-referenced as WHO-001 (die 1 of 3 from the same hub), this 1954-S Lincoln Wheat Cent DDO-002 shows medium spread under the left side of the 4 in the date. The designation "die 1 of 3" indicates three separate working dies were produced from the same doubled hub, each inheriting the hub doubling but potentially differing in die markers and progression. The S mint mark sits low and centered under the 5 of the date — a positioning detail that helps distinguish this die from other 1954-S obverse dies. Die progression under UVC-1835 and DMR-027: Stage A shows both obverse and reverse at EDS, Stage B is unconfirmed at MDS, and Stage C is unconfirmed at LDS. San Francisco Wheat Cents from the mid-1950s had lower mintages than Philadelphia, making S-mint varieties harder to locate. Examine the left side of the 4 under magnification for the secondary impression.
