Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1954-D 5¢ WRPM-009, this Jefferson Nickel exhibits a D/D South repunched mintmark — meaning the initial D mintmark impression was placed slightly too far north, and when the engraver corrected by punching the final D in its proper position, the remnant of the first impression remained visible above (north of) the final placement, with the secondary D appearing to the south from the observer's perspective. Obverse die markers include a die gouge inside the lower N of IN, while the reverse carries short horizontal die scratches in the lower right arch of Monticello — diagnostics that fingerprint this specific working die pair.
