Description

The 1954 (D) Jefferson Nickel is a nickel minted at the Denver Mint, within the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. The U.S. Mint produced 117.2 million examples, making this the highest mintage among 3 variants, accounting for 60% of the year's production. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. Last year San Francisco struck nickels for circulation; the mint would not produce business-strike nickels again until 1968. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $38 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4053.
