1953-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-006

Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team with Variety ID: 1953-D 5¢ WRPM-006, this Jefferson Nickel shows a D/D Tilted (Rotated) displacement from the Denver Mint. Die markers include a die scratch extending ESE from the upper right of the first T in TRUST on the obverse. The reverse displays a die gouge above the left porch and another above the second L in MONTICELLO. The two reverse gouges near Monticello's architectural features provide spatially separated attribution markers across different zones of Schlag's design. At 75% copper and 25% nickel, 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the D mintmark was applied by hand to each working die at Philadelphia. Tilted RPMs produce distinctive non-parallel overlap where angular misalignment creates varying separation around the D's perimeter, distinguishing them from simple directional displacements.
