1952-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-005

Description

Exhibiting an S/S East displacement using MMS-002, this 1952-S Washington Silver Quarter was documented by VarietyVista with the obverse die also listed as ODV-006 (Thin Motto), creating a dual-variety coin. Die markers UVC-0809 / DMR-009 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with a die crack down the eagle's right wing at LDS and a die crack across the forehead and hair at LDS. The simultaneous eagle wing and portrait die cracks at Stage C document parallel structural failure on both die faces. Designed by John Flanagan, struck at San Francisco in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm. The ODV-006 Thin Motto pairing adds an obverse die classification that, combined with the RPM, gives collectors multiple attribution points from one specimen.
