1952-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-003

Description

Third in VarietyVista's catalog of 1952-S Washington Quarter repunched mintmarks, RPM-003 shows an S/S Northeast displacement and is cross-listed as MMS-002. The obverse die carries an additional variety: ODV-006, a Thin Motto where the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST appear thinner than normal, likely from die polishing or a lightly impressed hub. Cataloged under UVC-0807 and DMR-007, four die stages document the die's life from early production through VLDS. The pairing of a repunched mintmark with an obverse die variety makes this a dual-attribution coin where two independent manufacturing anomalies coincide on a single die pair. The 1952-S Washington Quarter was struck in 90% silver at San Francisco, and the northeast direction indicates the steel mintmark punch was repositioned both higher and to the right before the second impression.
