1952-S Repunched Mintmark WRPM-005

Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1952-S 10¢ WRPM-005 and cross-referenced as CONECA RPM #6, this Roosevelt Silver Dime exhibits an S/S repunched mintmark with the secondary impression positioned north of the primary. The obverse die markers include two die chips (dots) at the part of the forehead and a broken die scratch between the upper left of the 2 and the upper right center of the 5 in the date, curving southwest — a distinctive scratch path connecting two date digits that provides a strong identification marker. The reverse markers document a tall mintmark variant, with a die chip (dot) in the field above the lower olive, a die scratch beginning at the upper left of the M in AMERICA running east-southeast through MERICA to the M in UNUM — an unusually long scratch traversing multiple letters — and a die chip (dot) in the lower opening of the M in UNUM closer to the left center. The tall mintmark designation is diagnostically significant because mintmark punches varied in size and style across production runs, and a tall S creates a different visual profile than the standard-height version, adding an additional attribution point beyond the repunching itself. John R. Sinnock designed the Roosevelt Dime, and this 1952-S was struck at the San Francisco Mint in 90% silver composition (90% silver, 10% copper) weighing 2.50 grams with a diameter of 17.9 mm.
