Description

Cross-referenced as FS-501 and documented by VarietyVista, this San Francisco Mint Roosevelt Silver Dime holds the primary catalog position for the 1952-S date with an S/S Northwest displacement using MMS-004 (Tall) punch. Die markers UVC-228 / DMR-003: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with die scratches east-west on the reverse at MDS and die scratches north-south on the obverse at MDS; Stage C with die scratches weak to missing on the reverse at LDS and die scratches weak to missing on the obverse at LDS; Stage D with reverse at VLDS and a light die crack in the upper hair at VLDS. The disappearance of surface scratches from MDS through LDS demonstrates how continued striking polishes away superficial die marks. The Tall S punch identification tracks which physical tool was in service. Struck in 90% silver and 10% copper at 2.50 grams and 17.91 mm.
