1952-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

Documented as the first cataloged repunched mintmark variety for the 1952-D Jefferson Nickel, RPM-001 is identified by die markers cross-referenced as UVC-380 and DMR-002. Jefferson Nickels of this era carried D mintmarks applied by hand punch to individual working dies at the Denver Mint — a practice that produced the entire RPM class for the series before mintmarks moved to the hub in later decades. Stage A of this die was early die state on the reverse, with a noteworthy diagnostic: a die gouge running through the lower GO of GOD in the reverse motto IN GOD WE TRUST. This early-stage feature provides a useful quick-reference marker for collectors who encounter this die before die cracks and chips have accumulated to confirm later-stage attribution.
