Description

Listed as FS-101 in the Cherry Pickers` Guide, this 1951-D Washington Quarter carries strong spread on LIBERTY — one of the most prominent doubled die obverse varieties in the early 1950s silver quarter series. Die markers UVC-0757 and DMR-004 support attribution, with the obverse designated ODV-005. Three die stages chart the die`s service arc: Stage A at Early Die State remains unconfirmed, Stage B at Mid Die State is unconfirmed, and Stage C at Late Die State shows extensive deterioration including die cracks across the upper hair, a crack on the forehead, a die scratch connecting the lower ER of LIBERTY, and a crack down the eagle`s right wing. The concentration of LDS markers on Stage C creates a heavily cracked die surface providing unmistakable confirmation of the correct die pair. The FS-101 designation places this among the most widely recognized Washington Quarter varieties, actively sought by cherry pickers. Denver`s 1951 quarter was struck in 90% silver, and the strong LIBERTY spread on DDO-002 is visible under moderate magnification, making this an accessible target for variety collectors.
