Error
Description
With an S/S South displacement and an MMS-002 Trumpet Tail mintmark punch, this 1948 San Francisco Jefferson Nickel was documented by VarietyVista. Die markers UVC-574 / DMR-010: Stage A EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B LMDS with die scratches north-south on the reverse and the obverse at LMDS; Stage C LDS (unconfirmed). The trumpet tail S is a specific punch variant featuring a flared terminal on the lower S curve. The LMDS designation at Stage B indicates a state between early-mid and standard mid-die state. Struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, Schlag's Jefferson design was in its tenth production year by 1948. The north-south reverse die scratches serve as secondary markers for confirming die identity independent of the RPM. S/S South. MMS-002 (Trumpet Tail).
