The 1948 Jefferson Nickel is a nickel from the Philadelphia Mint, belonging to the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. The U.S. Mint produced 89.3 million examples, making this the highest mintage among 3 variants, accounting for 61% of the year's production. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. All three mints produced nickels.
