Description
The 1948 Franklin Half Dollar represents a Philadelphia Mint issue from the Franklin Half Dollars 1948-1963 series. With a mintage of 3.0 million, this is a scarce issue — the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Benjamin Franklin facing right and the reverse displays the Liberty Bell. First year of the Franklin Half Dollar. Struck at Philadelphia and Denver. Initial production was modest. The Philadelphia Mint, America's oldest coin-making facility, has struck coins continuously since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $37 to $110 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #6651.
