Description
The 1948 (D) Franklin Half Dollar is a half dollar produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Franklin Half Dollars 1948-1963 series. With a mintage of 4.0 million, this is a scarce issue — the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 57% of production. The obverse features Benjamin Franklin facing right and the reverse displays the Liberty Bell. First year of the Franklin Half Dollar. Struck at Philadelphia and Denver. Initial production was modest. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $37 to $177 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #6652.
