Description

Carrying attribution codes UVC-167 and DMR-010, this 1947-S Roosevelt Dime repunched mintmark features the S impression displaced to the east — recorded as S/S East. Three die stages are documented. Stage A: early die state, unconfirmed. Stage B: middle die state, unconfirmed. Stage C: both reverse and obverse in late die state. The eastward displacement of the secondary S impression is diagnostic for field identification; under magnification, the ghost of the first punch appears slightly to the right of the final, properly placed mark. The 1947-S Roosevelt Dime is from the second year of the series at San Francisco, struck in 90% silver with the high relief and sharp detail characteristic of early Roosevelt production. As with all early Roosevelt Dime RPMs, the variety arises from individual hand-application of mintmark punches to working dies — a practice that persisted through 1989 for dimes. RPM-006 reflects the active cataloguing work applied to early Roosevelt Dime varieties by specialists in this field.
