1947-S Over Mint Mark OMM-001

Description

A landmark over mintmark variety in the Roosevelt Dime series, the 1947-S OMM-001 displays an S punched over a D mintmark in a centered position. Cataloged as UVC-168/169, DMR-011/012, and cross-referenced as FS-501, this variety was struck at San Francisco using a die originally prepared with a Denver D mintmark before correction. The reverse mintmark style is MMS-003, the Sans Serif type. VarietyVista documents four die states: Stage A in early die state remains unconfirmed, as does Stage B in mid-die state. Stage C shows both reverse and obverse reaching late die state, indicating extended production use. By Stage D, die scratches running north-south appear on the reverse in very late die state, and the obverse die was replaced while in early die state, confirming a die pairing change.
