1947-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-003

Description

Documented by VarietyVista with a D/D South displacement, this 1947 Denver Washington Quarter carries die markers UVC-0651 / DMR-007. Three stages: Stage A EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B reverse and obverse MDS; Stage C LDS with a die crack down the eagle's right wing, a die crack from URIBUS to the wing, and obverse LDS. Both Stage C cracks involve the heraldic eagle's wing on the reverse, tracing paths from the wing itself and the adjacent PLURIBUS inscription, indicating concentrated structural failure in this zone during the die's late life. Flanagan's design was struck in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm. The 1947-D had a mintage of approximately 15.3 million. The eagle's wing is a common die crack location because the detailed feathering creates stress concentration points that propagate fractures under repeated striking. D/D South.
