Description

Submitted by David Mulberry, the 1947-D Roosevelt Dime WRPM-003 displays a D/D tilted (rotated) repunched mintmark. Struck in 90% silver, this early Roosevelt Dime variety has been documented across two die states. The first state shows no prominent obverse markers, with a reverse die scratch southwest from the left side of the upper oak leaves and a weak die clash in the same area. The second state adds a small die chip dot on the center of the nose on the obverse, with a die crack on the reverse running west from the torch holder above the bands to the upper right olive leaves. The progression from the unmarked obverse of the first state to the nose chip of the second state provides a useful die-state sorting criterion. The reverse die clash and later die crack document advancing die fatigue, while the tilted D repunching remains constant across both states.
