1947-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-005

Description

RPM-005 on the 1947-D Roosevelt Dime shows the D mintmark punched over a previous D impression in a different position, attributed by VarietyVista. Die markers are UVC-156 and DMR-011. Stage A is early die state (unconfirmed). The Roosevelt Dime was introduced in 1946, making 1947 only the second year of the series. Denver Mint examples carry the D mintmark on the reverse, applied by hand-punch to individual working dies before they entered production — a process standard through the 1960s that regularly produced secondary impressions when the punch was repositioned. The 1947-D Roosevelt Dime was struck in the 90% silver, 10% copper alloy standard for dimes through 1964, giving collectors both a composition interest and a variety interest. Die markers UVC-156 and DMR-011 provide the two-sided fingerprint that distinguishes this die pair from other RPM attributions in the VarietyVista 1947-D Roosevelt Dime catalogue.
