1947-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-003
Error
Description
The 1947-D Roosevelt dime RPM-003 documents a repunched mint mark on one of the earliest issues in John R. Sinnock's design series, launched in 1946 on 90% silver planchets. VarietyVista tracks this variety as UVC-154 and DMR-009. The cross-references record this as a D over D West repunch — the secondary D was displaced to the west before the final mint mark position was applied. Stage A is an early die state (EDS, unconfirmed); Stage B is a middle die state (MDS, unconfirmed); Stage C is a late die state (LDS) carrying a light die crack running east-to-west through the ME of DIME — a characteristic reverse die crack useful for Stage C identification, with the obverse recorded as MDS at that stage. Collectors examining 1947-D Roosevelt dimes for RPM-003 should use low-to-moderate magnification and examine the mint mark from the south, where the secondary D's lower curve is typically most visible. The D/D West displacement pattern on this early Roosevelt dime is reliably attributable on well-preserved examples once the stage-appropriate die markers are cross-referenced alongside the repunch offset.
