1946-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

Holding the primary RPM listing for the first postwar Denver Jefferson Nickel, this variety was documented by VarietyVista. Die markers UVC-345 / DMR-002: Stage A EDS with a die gouge through the lower last O of MONTICELLO, obverse EDS; Stage B reverse and obverse MDS; Stage C reverse and obverse LDS. The die gouge through the terminal O of MONTICELLO at Stage A provides an early-state marker that may persist or diminish with die wear through later stages. The 1946-D holds significance as the first Denver Mint Jefferson Nickel after the return to standard 75% copper, 25% nickel composition following the wartime silver alloy era. The coin weighs 5.0 grams at 21.21 mm, with the mintmark returning to its small standard position on the reverse after the wartime years' oversized placement above the dome. No directional displacement is specified.
