Error
Description
An S/S West variety from the San Francisco Mint, this 1945-S wartime silver Jefferson Nickel RPM-030 was documented by VarietyVista and awaits specimen submission for new color digital photographs. Die markers UVC-344 / DMR-032: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with reverse and obverse at LDS. The confirmed LDS for Stage C indicates late die state specimens have been identified showing accumulated wear. The westward displacement means the initial S was placed slightly east before a corrective second punch. Struck in 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, Felix Schlag's design features the oversized S above Monticello. The 1945-S was the final year of wartime silver nickel production at San Francisco, and the 30th cataloged RPM reflects the prolific variety output.
