Error
Description
Bearing an S/S West displacement, this VarietyVista-documented 1945-S wartime silver Jefferson Nickel from the San Francisco Mint features extensive die scratching that appeared at the LMDS stage. Die markers UVC-342 / DMR-030 track four stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with reverse and obverse at MDS; Stage C with numerous die scratches north-south on upper left reverse at LMDS and numerous die scratches north-south on obverse at LMDS; Stage D at LDS (unconfirmed). Specimens are needed for new color digital photographs. The simultaneous appearance of numerous scratches on both faces at Stage C suggests the scratches resulted from a single die servicing event rather than gradual accumulation. Struck in 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm during the final year of wartime silver nickel production.
