Description

An S/S North variety documented by VarietyVista, this San Francisco wartime silver Jefferson Nickel records a mid-production obverse die change tracked through two UVC pairings. Die markers UVC-331 / DMR-019: Stage A with strong die scratches north-south on the reverse at EDS, a die crack across the bust to rim at K-6:30 at VLDS, and a die chip above B of LIBERTY. Then UVC-1705 / DMR-049: Stage B with reverse at MDS and the obverse die changed at MDS; Stage C with a light die crack from the upper right dome south-southwest to the steps west of pillar #3 at LDS and a light die crack across the bust at LDS. The bust die crack appearing at both stages A and C (under different obverse dies) documents that the crack progression continued regardless of the obverse swap. Composed of 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm.
