1945-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-006

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this San Francisco Mint wartime silver Jefferson Nickel from the final year of the emergency alloy shows an extensive three-stage die life with both die scratches and structural cracks. Die markers UVC-319 / DMR-007: Stage A with die scratches north-south on reverse at EDS and die scratches north-south on obverse at EDS; Stage B with reverse and obverse at MDS; Stage C with die scratches on reverse worn away at LDS, a die crack from right dome south-southwest through and inside pillar #3, and die scratches on obverse worn away at LDS. The pillar #3 die crack at Stage C documents structural failure in Monticello's architectural detail. Struck in 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the oversized S above Monticello distinguishes the wartime silver content from standard copper-nickel issues.
