1945 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003
ErrorDescription
Exhibiting clockwise spread from a pivot point at approximately the one o'clock position, this 1945 Philadelphia Mint Washington Quarter WDDO-003 affects IN GOD WE TRUST, the letters LIBE in LIBERTY, the lower ribbon, the designer's initials, and the date. The clockwise pivot produces doubling that radiates outward from the upper right quadrant of the obverse, with elements farther from the pivot showing greater displacement — attributed by the Wexler Team. Three die gouges provide attribution markers: one to the right of the bottom L in LIBERTY, one north of the G in GOD, and one connecting the centers of the Q and U in QUARTER on the reverse. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 1945 25c WDDO-003, this variety was struck during the final year of World War II in 90% silver composition — the standard Washington Quarter alloy until the 1965 transition to copper-nickel clad. The multiple die gouges across both obverse and reverse create a thorough diagnostic map for this die pair.
