Description

Closing out the Mercury dime series in its final year, the 1945-D DDO-001 carries light spread confined to the date numerals on Adolph Weinman's Liberty-head obverse. Denver produced approximately 40.2 million dimes in 1945, rounding out a wartime production run that had seen elevated mintages across all three facilities. Cross-referenced as 1-O-II-C in the VarietyVista classification system — denoting the first obverse variety, Class II pivoted or rotational doubling, C subtype — and tracked as UVC-214 with die marriage reference DMR-002. Class II doubling results from a slight angular rotation between the primary and secondary hub impressions, producing spread that increases with distance from the pivot center. On this variety, the date numerals capture the spread while other obverse elements apparently fell too close to the rotation axis to display detectable doubling.
