1943 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-048
Error
Description
DDO-048 on the 1943 Washington Quarter shows a medium spread on LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the date. Die markers: UVC-1244 and DMR-057. Stage A is early die state (unconfirmed). Stage B shows a die crack across the forehead and hair, placing it in mid die state. I-code marker: I-2 extra LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and date. Doubling class is Class IV Offset Hub Doubling. VarietyVista cross-reference: DDO-048. The 1943 Washington Quarter was struck in the 90% silver, 10% copper alloy standard for quarters through 1964. The medium spread affecting the full obverse motto, LIBERTY, and date simultaneously across Stage A is characteristic of a broadly offset hub impression; the Stage B forehead crack adds a die-state sequencing tool for collectors. Washington Quarters of the early 1940s were struck during wartime coin production at elevated rates to meet demand, and hub-doubling varieties from this period are collected both for their variety interest and their silver composition. Die markers UVC-1244 and DMR-057 distinguish DDO-048 from other 1943 quarter obverse variety attributions in the VarietyVista catalogue.
