1943 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

A counterclockwise spread from a pivot point at approximately 7:00, this Philadelphia 1943 Washington quarter doubled die shows its doubling on LIBERTY, the bottom of the ribbon, the 3 in the date, and the designer's initials. Cross-referenced as CONECA 6-O-I and Cherrypickers FS-25-1943-102, and also listed under Crawford as CDDO-001, this is among the better-documented doubled dies for the wartime quarter series. The obverse die carries a die crack running west-southwest to east-northeast through the upper hair, extending through the lower T in LIBERTY, while a scratch runs east-southeast from the upper right R of LIBERTY and another runs west-southwest from just below the center of the left side of the B. A small die gouge sits just below the Y. The reverse features a die crack running down the eagle's right wing.
