1943 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-033
Error
Description
The 1943 Washington Quarter DDO-033, cataloged by VarietyVista under die tracking codes UVC-0319 and DMR-034, shows a medium spread on LIBERTY and the ribbon end, with a lighter spread visible on the date. Two die stages carry specific markers. Stage A is the early die state (EDS). Stage B is the middle die state (MDS). Stage C is the late die state (LDS). The 1943 Washington Quarter is a 90% silver coin, struck before the composition change to copper-nickel clad in 1965. John Flanagan's portrait of George Washington — introduced in 1932 for the bicentennial of Washington's birth — appears on all pre-clad Washington Quarters. The medium spread on LIBERTY and the ribbon end makes DDO-033 visible under modest magnification in earlier die states, though the spread on the date is lighter and may require higher magnification to confirm in worn examples. DMR-034 tracks the specific die markers across stages, and UVC-0319 is the VarietyVista universal code for this attribution.
