Description

Documented by VarietyVista under UVC-0300 and DMR-015, this 1943 Washington Silver Quarter exhibits a medium spread of doubling on LIBERTY and the ribbon end — design elements where the hub displacement produced visible separation between primary and secondary impressions. Die state documentation is thorough: Stage A shows die scratches across the lower 1 of the date in early die state with the reverse also at EDS, Stage B shows a die crack across the hair and through the lower T of LIBERTY at mid-die-state with the reverse at MDS, and Stage C at late die state remains unconfirmed. The progression from clean EDS fields through the development of a die crack system across the hair and LIBERTY by MDS provides a clear die-state chronology — collectors can determine whether their specimen was struck early or later in this die's production life by checking for the presence or absence of the hair-to-T die crack. The Washington Quarter was designed by John Flanagan and struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1943 in 90% silver at 6.25 grams with a 24.3 mm diameter.
