Description

Struck in the wartime silver alloy of 35% silver, 56% copper, and 9% manganese, this 1943 Jefferson Nickel DDO-010 displays light hub doubling spread across multiple obverse elements: IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, the star, and the date. The wartime composition was adopted in 1942 when nickel was designated a critical war material, and these distinctive silver-content coins were identified by a large mint mark placed above Monticello's dome on the reverse.
