Error
Description
The 1939 Walking Liberty Half Dollar WDDO-002 carries the cross-reference Crawford CDDO-001 and is attributed by the Wexler team under Variety ID 1939 50¢ WDDO-002. The doubling is Class V with the spread emanating from a pivot point at approximately 7 o'clock on Liberty's profile, producing a counterclockwise displacement on the outer leaves, the letters BERTY in LIBERTY, and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. Obverse die markers include a die gouge south of the second T in TRUST, a die scratch running north-northeast from the upper left of the U in TRUST, and a die scratch running east-northeast from the upper right serif of the first T in TRUST, intersecting the lower right of the H of THE at the east. Reverse die markers include a die gouge between the second and third tail feathers from the bottom of the right wing and a die gouge northeast of the lower left of the E of E PLURIBUS. The Walking Liberty Half Dollar is struck in 90% silver, and the 1939 issue was produced at the Philadelphia Mint.
